This course is a series of four, 2.5 hour classes, on the same night of each week, from 6pm to 8:30pm. You will learn the fundamental principles of working with clay from start to finish to create both functional and sculptural hand built creations to take home at the end of the course. Outside of class time, you will have access to the studio to work on your projects. All materials and tools will be provided by the studio and are included in the cost of the course. 

For intermediate courses: A minimum of one prior month of mud lab classes is required subject to individual exceptions, please email safariiimudlab@gmail.com to request an exception.

All Levels Course:

This course is a series of four, 2.5 hour classes, on one night of each week (Mondays 6:30-9:00 PM OR Wednesdays 6:00-8:30 PM). You will learn the fundamental principles of working with clay from start to finish to create both functional and sculptural hand built creations to take home at the end of the course. Outside of class time, you will have access to the studio to work on your projects. All materials and tools will be provided by the studio and are included in the cost of the course. 

Specialty Course: Making Faces: Expression and Human Figures in Clay

Creating human figures with hand building ceramic techniques. Interactive discussions and instruction on sculpture, art history, and sociology. A class with Angel Lin. Students will complete one human figure sculpture over the course of 4 weeks. Some previous experience in clay may be helpful, but not required.

Ceramic Lamps Course - Intermediate

This course meets from 6:30pm-9pm on four consecutive Wednesdays. Learn to build two types of hand built lamps from clay.

• Globe Lamp - Build a sculptural ceramic base that holds a globe light on top. You will explore advanced surface design techniques like sgraffito and adding 3D texture.

• Carved Light Lamp - You will build a vessel, then cut and carve designs directly into the clay so light glows through the negative space.

All clay and tools are provided. LED globe lights included, so you leave with a finished, working piece!

Intermediate level.
