The MudLab at safariiiCAMP is a small community oriented ceramics studio run by safariiiCAMP Residents. Our mission is to share our love of ceramics in a welcoming and creatively engaging environment.

Courses
All Levels Course:
This course is a series of four, 2.5 hour classes, on one night of each week (Mondays 6:30-9 PM OR Wednesdays 6:00-8:30 PM). You will learn the fundamental principles of working with clay from start to finish to create both functional and sculptural hand built creations to take home at the end of the course. Outside of class time, you will have access to the studio to work on your projects. All materials and tools will be provided by the studio and are included in the cost of the course.

Specialty Course: Aquatic Forms with Dalia Aljawad
Dive into the fascinating world of sea life through clay! In Aquatic Forms, we’ll explore how to translate the organic shapes, textures, and movement of underwater creatures into ceramic form, with a special focus on the mysterious and expressive world of cephalopods—octopuses, squid, cuttlefish, and nautiluses. Through hands-on sculpting and surface techniques, students will create their own imaginative aquatic forms while learning to bring life and character to clay!

Due to the small class size, our instructors are able to meet you at whatever skill level you are at whether you have experience, or trying pottery for the first time!

Itai Rinat
FOUNDER
Itai is a ceramic artist with over 13 years of experience. He has spent the last 4 years managing and teaching at various ceramics studios across the Bay Area. His work focuses on wheel thrown pieces, with an emphasis on simple functional forms.

Dalia Aljawad
Instructor
Dalia Aljawad is a multidisciplinary artist with 14 years of experience sculpting with clay and a range of other materials. Her work is inspired by nature-particularly biomorphism-alongside music, art therapy and psychology.

Nadya Voynovskaya
Instructor
Nadya Voynovskaya is an experienced muralist, painter, sculptor and educator. They work with clay to bring imaginal worlds to life and do their best to infuse art classes with whimsy, humor and joy.

Nik Greenberg
Instructor
Nik is a ceramic artist with seven years of throwing and hand building-building experience. Their practice centers on large scale biomoprhic vessels that follow the body’s curves and hollows. In their classes, Nik will students to work intuitively with the material and let the clay lead.

Stacy Phan
Instructor
Stacy Phan is an Oakland-based writer and ceramicist. She works primarily in wheel throwing and her work focuses on making every day held items a source of joy and grounding. Through teaching, she hopes to show students how the process of making and becoming can be enough all on its own.

Angel Lin
Instructor
Angel Lin has been a sculptor for over seven years. She uses hand building techniques to create human forms flush with expression and life. Her works are physical manifestation of her reflections on identity, culture, femininity, and society. Her teaching style includes interactive demos and group discussions intended to guide students to push the traditional boundaries of clay. Students will learn how to be a little less precious and a little more fearless in their practice.
